FLOBOTS – Handlebars
With a simple pluck, Flobots’ cello begins a journey into the unknown; with intro. lyrics that start out sounding like t
hey could be from a nursery rhyme . After the first verse, what seemed like another pop tune designed to stick in our mind, gathers steam and crashes through the barriers of political censorship that is quite prevalent in commercial music.
The simplicity of the horn, bass and drums during a majority of the song during the more simplistic areas of the song, adds to the crash of the electric guitars that seem to excude the raw qualities that make the song so memorable. As the lead singer speaks about the power that exists within the higher ups in society, all the singular elements join to lift the song to new levels before simmering back down once again to the simplicity of the cello.
