I was introduced to this band when they performed on SNL during these past few months. Great musicality that sets them apart from many in the music arena currently; the folk sound is extremely relaxed, giving their music a very airy feel. Below is a video for Mykonos from their self titled album.
Video for the track, Welcome To Heartbreak, that according to Kanye’s blog will not be released. Sad that the general populous will not get to see this work of digital art; the use of the distortion effect is at first disconcerting, then it becomes apparent that it is being used as a creative tool.
From his self titled debut album, Ryan Leslie, this particular track, according to Wikipedia, has received a three video treatment. Each video having its own theme and with this one in particular, the standard R&B beat is replaced by a moving rock instrumental.
Listening to the original and comparing it to the “rock” version, there seems to be something missing, maybe its an instruments ability to properly convey the emotions at hand instead of simple bleeps and bloops.
After selling a million albums in one week, a man in such a position can do anything he wants; and that is where “Prom Queen,” comes into play. Lil Wayne’s first full foray into the world of rock after his “Let it Rock,” single with Kevin Rudolph. As a rock fan, not too bad, drums could have been a little better but good first try.
Dark, melodic song that seems to have fallen through the radio and TV airplay cracks; Duffy’s fourth release from the Welsh singer’s debut album, Rockferry is a gripping track with a video to match.
I’m a big fan, simply had to post this… (2:45 for the instrumental) Read more »
T-Pain’s follow up to I Can’t Believe It, follows the direction from the previous video, circus.
Monáe is a new artist, product of Diddy’s Badboy Records, one that defines herself as futuristic. Looking through her ad material and especially her MySpace page, one can easily see that she is living in a world years ahead of ours. The sound of her album, this track especially, seem to channel the group Outkast, a high energy beat with a lot of instruments in the background. Definitely a unique artist, with a promising new sound.

With Kanye West releasing stems from the single, Love Lockdown, there are tons of mixes out there, hard to pick one but this one really struck a chord, (Radiohead and Kanye West, who could argue?). DJ Earworm is a mashup artist known for his intricate mixes, having a keen ear for his work.
“Anybody can throw an a cappella track over another record and call it their own. That’s just sampling on a basic level. What interests me is the affinity of musical elements that present themselves when two or more tracks meet, and the window of dissonance that opens in their overlap. Irony is boring. I’m after a certain transporting feeling, a melancholy nostalgia or beautiful sadness that tells you you’ve created something completely new.”
